The Caesar shift wheel template
Download a copy of the wheel template and print it on to card to make a Caesar wheel.
The easiest way to calculate the letters to substitute is to create a Caesar shift wheel. To do this, download the Caesar wheel template and follow the instructions.
To calculate the substitution letters desired, simply rotate the inner circle to the left by the number of sections required by the shift. The diagram below shows a shift of 3.
You can then manually decipher or encipher a message. Of course it is quicker to decipher or encipher Caesar shift ciphers using a computer and an encipher/decipher tool, but that does take some of the fun out of it!
